Arkham Audio sets the tone for 2024 with the debut release from Belgian rising techno producer SP1, titled ‘WRK’ EP. This 10-tracker release comprises four originals and six remixes by Cri Du Coeur & Erratum, Stanislav Tolkachev, Klint, OctOgn, Steve Redhead, and J.Blofeld. The EP opens with a dark, clean, and driving beat in ‘WRK1,’ featuring thumping techno vibes, airy chords, and otherworldly sounds in a minimalist aesthetic. Cri Du Coeur & Erratum remix ‘WRK1’ with a hard-groove rendition, incorporating hypnotic beats, tense rhythms, and abrasive pads. Stanislav Tolkachev takes the reins on ‘WRK1’ with a bouncy bass-drum, classical 909 set, and soothing chords for a deep and hypnotic rework. ‘WRK2’ follows, offering a gritty and menacing industrial techno cut, maintaining a minimal approach with a dense atmosphere ideal for the warehouse. Klint transforms ‘WRK2’ into a driving techno stomper, elevating the original with electrifying energy. OctOgn’s remix of ‘WRK2’ introduces a more percussive rework, featuring a fast-paced techno experience. ‘WRK3’ explores groovier territory with a stompy bass-drum and a hypnotic rim-like groove that captivates listeners. Steve Redhead remixes ‘WRK3’ with a heavier touch, incorporating open crashes, heavy rhythms, and a bold reinterpretation. ‘WRK4,’ the final original on the EP, takes a melodic turn with an evolving synth, majestic build-ups, and heavy basslines, creating a dance-floor-ready tune. J.Blofeld, a label regular, provides a remix for ‘WRK4,’ delivering a heavy cut built for pure madness. SP1’s ‘WRK’ EP serves as a robust foundation for future expectations, showcasing a diverse range of techno tracks and hinting at more ambitious ventures to come. The release date is set for February 16th, 2024.
